Travel and General Use Binoculars

Travel binoculars are also known as general use ones. They offer excellent views of just the simple scenery, perfect for travelling, camping and observing wildlife and nature. These need to be compact enough to fit easily into a bag or your pocket and lightweight enough to carry around. It is also worth looking for some that are resistant to water, durable and rugged for the different conditions that you can find yourself in.

Generally, you will need a magnification of 7x, 8x or 10x when travelling. Higher magnifications than these lead to the images being unstable without the use of a tripod. Another option is using Image Stabilised Binoculars – these are more pricy but will allow you to use higher magnification without the shakiness.

To keep your binoculars compact, it is best to avoid objective lenses that are larger than 42mm. This is enough for gathering light during the day. If you would like to use them when the light conditions are low, you will need them to be between the 42mm and 50mm range but this can lead to larger, heavier binoculars. When you are in areas where the weather conditions are unpredictable, water-resistant or waterproofing is essential to make sure your binoculars offer the best performance and durability.
